Maine was initially a part of Massachusetts and in 1752, our first Masonic lodge was formed under their aegis. We were created as an independent state in June, 1820. At that same time, the Grand Lodge of Masons in Maine was formed, incorporated by the state, with the Governor, William King, serving as Grand Master. From the 31 lodges which had been part of Massachusetts, we now have 185 lodges covering the entire state. For those doing research, a list of lodges showing their precedence can be found here.

In this section we have books about Masonic lodges in Maine, our Grand Lodge and more. Additionally, we have Maine history and travel books for you to browse and enjoy. Don’t forget: if you’re looking for information on your ancestors, we’ve got quite a few books that might be of interest in our Genealogy and History sections. Do a lookup on the computer right here at the Grand Lodge Library & Museum!
