Maine Masonic Discussion List
Please read this information carefully before proceeding!
The Grand Lodge of Maine has established an online discussion location for Maine Masons. Using Yahoo Groups, you'll be able to post messages either with your web browser and/or to send/receive them via e-mail. In addition, we'll be using other features of the Yahoo site to permit easy transfer of files, photos, etc. Yahoo Groups also offers an online chat facility for those who enjoy real-time conversations.
The operation of this list has been officially sanctioned by the Grand Master of Masons in Maine. The primary moderator is Wor. Edward L. King, Webmaster for the Grand Lodge. Membership in this group is open to Maine Masons only.
It is expected that all discussion will occur in a brotherly and fraternal manner. Failure to do so will result in your ability to access the board being suspended or terminated. We ask that all participants take the time to read their messages BEFORE hitting the 'send' button, remembering that truly Masonic virtue of TEMPERANCE!
In order to participate, you'll need to have a Yahoo 'account'. If you already participate on another Yahoo group, using that identification is fine. If not, you'll need to sign up with Yahoo first. It's reasonably painless and they don't add you to junk mailing lists. If you've got a Yahoo account, signup is a one step process; if you don't, it's two (first Yahoo THEN the Discussion list)!
When you sign up with our Discussion Group, you will be assenting to the 'rules' which appear below. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Moderator; otherwise, we'll be looking forward to your participation in this a GREAT resource for Maine Masonry.
Please note too that at present we're using the popular Yahoo Discussion Groups. This allows us to avoid any charges for the service. The down side to this is that you will have a number of advertisements attached to your messages and you will also see them when you go to the Yahoo web site. Obviously, the Grand Lodge has no control over these advertisements.
VERY IMPORTANT: TO SPEED YOUR REGISTRATION PROCESS, WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR OUR LIST, PLEASE USE THE "COMMENTS SECTION" (AS SHOWN BELOW) TO INDICATE YOUR NAME, LODGE, LODGE NUMBER AND LOCATION. THANKS!

Welcome, Brethren - and enjoy.
Maine Masonic Discussion List
"Rules of the Road"
This list has been created to enable Maine Masons to share discussion about Masonry in Maine. Its establishment has been approved by the Grand Master of Masons in Maine. It is under the auspices of the Grand Lodge.
Those who've been involved with mailing lists in the past know that they can sometimes be great and at other times they're just awful. We want ours to make you proud you're involved in Freemasonry in Maine! You have the option to choose to participate either via a web browser or by receiving e-mail. It is YOUR choice and YOU control the option.
A few simple rules have been established to ensure that everyone gains maximum enjoyment from this mailing list:
#1 - STAY ON TOPIC!
No discussions of politics, religion, weather, or the state of rutabagas in
Arundel will be allowed. The
subject is MAINE MASONRY! There are thousands upon thousands of other online
venues where
discussions are held on other topics; please let's keep the message traffic
manageable by ensuring that
we stay on topic. If you wish to share jokes or whatever, this is NOT the place.
#2 - WORK AND PLAY WELL TOGETHER!
We all can sometimes get angry and frustrated. Sadly, when we're home with
our computer late at
night, we can sometimes forget that what we write in a online venue can never be
recalled. A sharp retort, an angry word, or an ill-conceived idea is unbecoming
and sometimes (quite sadly) unmasonic.
Yet all too often in the
electronic world, these things occur. Let us guard our words and actions lest
intemperance cause us to
be seen as something we are not.
#3 - THE WEBMASTER CALLS THE SHOTS!
The Grand Master has appointed the Grand Lodge Webmaster to oversee this list.
He has been given the final
authority to make judgment calls on what is/is not appropriate. Please respect
his instructions knowing
that failure to do so will subject you to suspension or permanent removal from
the list. He will attempt to
be charitable, temperate, prudent, and discreet: you should make the same attempt
in all of your
postings. There may also be additional moderators added but it is our hope
that the list can be
'self-policing' so that it does not become a burden to anyone.
#4 - ENJOY THE LIST!
Participation in this list will add mail to your mailbox each day. You can
remove yourself at any time if
this becomes a burden. You can also read and post messages online if you wish
rather than using the
e-mail function. As we grow and develop, let us know how we might improve this
list to serve you and
Maine Masonry.
#5 - REMEMBER: YOU ARE SOMEONE'S IMPRESSION OF MASONRY!
Although this is a 'closed list' (i.e., Maine Masons only), e-mails
are easily shared with others.
This is NOT a tyled lodge and you should govern yourself accordingly. What
you write reflects on both
yourself AND Maine Masonry. Take due notice thereof!
Your participation in this list provides a stated acceptance of these rules. Should you not wish to participate, please discontinue your usage.
We hope that this will become yet another tool to expand the friendship and fellowship of Freemasonry in Maine.
Again, Welcome!
Thanks for being patient and reading through all of that. To sign up, click below (don't forget to put your name, lodge name/number, and location in the comments section) and ENJOY!
