LODGE HISTORIES: URGENT Commitment needed.
For the first time in history, the Grand Lodge of Maine is on the verge of having all of its lodges being current on reporting their Annual Histories.
Starting this year, 26 lodges owed 83 years of delinquent histories. Through the efforts of District Deputy Grand Masters and the Grand Historian, seven lodges have committed to taking care of 45 years, leaving only 38 years of delinquent histories.
The remaining 38 years are owed by 19 lodges: Six lodges owe last year’s history; Nine owe histories for the last two years; Three lodges owe histories for the last 3 years and One lodge owes histories for the last four years. These lodges will be personally contacted. Please make the effort to get your lodge caught up. Of course current histories are due from many lodges but we expect them to come in as they have the last few years.
Since 1870 when lodge Histories were first required, we have never had 100% compliance. We are on the verge of making history with our histories.
Don’t take the chance of being the one lodge that stops such a historical happening!!!
Candidates for Grand Lodge Office: Any Brother that is thinking of submitting his name as a candidate for an elective Grand Lodge office should be aware that the deadline for submitting his intent to run for office is March 15, 2010. Should you decide to run for office you must submit a letter of intent to the Grand Secretary by March 15th. If your Blue Lodge endorses you as a candidate, they should provide you with a letter to that effect. The letter should contain your Personal and Masonic Biography and should be mailed by you or your lodge to all lodges, Grand Lodge officers and Permanent Members of Grand Lodge. To do this you can order a set of mailing labels from Grand Lodge. As a candidate, the expense of the mailing is entirely yours.
Likewise, if you have been serving on a Grand Lodge Committee, to which you were elected and your term of office is due to expire, you must submit your letter of intent if you wish to be a candidate for that committee again.
Presently, we have one vacancy on the Grand Lodge Finance Committee and one vacancy on the Board of Trustees of the Charitable Foundation. We need a candidate for each of these positions.
Election of Proxies: Please remember that your lodge must elect a Proxy at its April Stated Communication. Your Proxy is to represent your lodge in the event that neither the Master nor the Senior or Junior Warden is able to attend our Annual Communication on May 4, 2010. We will be sending you a Proxy Form, which you should use as it must be in the possession of the Proxy when he registers at Grand Lodge.
Fraternally,
Hollis G. Dixon
Grand Secretary
