Newsletter from the Grand Secretary

Hollis G. Dixon, Grand Secretary

December 2009

The Holiday Season is hereThis is the time of year when time starts to fly by and the next thing you know its Christmas.  Before it is too late, I want to wish all of our Lodge Secretaries and the staff here at Grand Lodge a very Merry Christmas.

Winter is coming:  Winter is definitely fast approaching and we should all be mindful of those members of our lodges that are elderly, that live alone, or that have special needs.  We should not sit back and wait to hear that one of our Masonic Widows needs help getting her winter supply of firewood undercover or that she might need help paying for a tank of oil for her furnace.

Exchanging Christmas GiftsAs we approach the Holiday season, it is customary at many businesses for workers to exchange inexpensive Christmas Gifts.  Usually the gifts are limited to five or ten dollars. You can make a monetary donation to the Good Shepherd Food Bank in the name of the person that you choose to receive a gift. We understand that for every dollar you  donate the Good Shepherd Food Bank will provide $ 12.50 worth of food for a family in need. That is what we do here at Grand Lodge.

Rather than an inexpensive gift that they may never use, we think that your friends would find satisfaction in knowing that they had donated money to help a hungry family at Christmas time.  If you think you might be interested in this idea, you can go to the Good Shepherd Food Bank Web site at www.gsfb.org  for more information or just call them at (207) 782-3554.

E-mail Addresses:  Once again, I would like to remind you that we have three different email addresses coming into the Grand Lodge office; each for a specific purpose:

grandlodge@mainemason.org goes directly to the girls that will fill your orders for lodge supplies, 50 Year Veterans’ Medals, official forms and forwarding dispensation requests to the Grand Master.

If you wish to submit your Committee Report to Grand Lodge before the Annual Session of Grand Lodge, electronically, then you should address it to grandlodge@mainemason.org    By doing so, the staff in the Grand Lodge office will be able to access it directly and process it immediately.  If you send it directly to the Grand   Secretary it will cause a delay because the Grand Secretary will have to print the entire report and deliver it to the staff or forward the message to their computer.  Both of these steps cause unnecessary delays when dozens of reports are received at the wrong email address.  T

he address - grandtreasurer@mainemason.org goes to the Grand Treasurer and randsecretary@mainemason.org goes to the Grand Secretary.        Please try to use the address, which pertains to the particular message you are sending.  By doing so, you will help us to be more efficient here at the Grand Lodge Office.  Thank you!

Included with this monthly Newsletter is a flyer from our Grand Librarian called, From the Stacks.  Be sure to read it. [Webmaster note: From the Stacks is available here are a PDF file to read or download]

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Fraternally,
        Hollis G. Dixon
         Grand Secretary
