Newsletter from the Grand Secretary

Hollis G. Dixon, Grand Secretary

February 2010

Secretaries Schools:  We conducted three Secretaries Schools during the month of January; one in York; one in Augusta and the last in Bangor at the new Bangor Masonic Center.  Wor. Brother Thomas Heath provided training to enable a number of new Secretaries to obtain certification that will allow them to access the database on the Grand Lodge computer via the internet. This will enable them to maintain their membership records directly on the Grand Lodge computer. I would like to thank those lodge Secretaries that hosted those schools.

Finance Committee:  The Grand Lodge Finance Committee met with the Trustees of the Masonic Temple in Portland on Friday, January 22, 2010 to discuss the situation with the Masonic Temple. A number of new ideas were discussed and the Trustees will be pursuing several of them during the upcoming year.

A number of Masons have told members of the Grand Lodge Staff that they have heard that Grand Lodge is going to move to Bangor.  Brethren, there are no plans to move the Grand Lodge office to Bangor. Every effort is being made to cut back on the expenses of operating the Grand Lodge office, including the cost of rent.

Special Communication: A Special Communication of the Grand Lodge of Maine was held on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Togus.  Grand Lodge Officers joined our Veterans for a Sunday Service in the Interdenominational Chapel at 10:30 a. m. Members of the Grand Commandery joined their Masonic Brethren for the service.

Special Communication:  Notice of a Special Communication of the Grand Lodge of Maine will be sent out shortly.  This important meeting will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Siloam Lodge No. 92 in Fairfield.  Grand Lodge will open at 10:00 a. m.  The purpose of this special communication is to facilitate the reading of the Annual Reports of the various Grand Lodge Committees. A light lunch will be served at the conclusion of the meeting.  By holding this special communication, our Grand Master will be able to hold the regular Annual Session of Grand Lodge in Bangor with a different Agenda.  This should make for an interesting and enjoyable session.

A Note from a Past Grand Master and Grand Secretary:  M. W. John Anagnostis has asked that I inform you that he has a Tuxedo and Morning Suit that he would like to sell for a reasonable price.  They are each size X-tra Large.  If you are interested, you can reach John at 1-(207) 282-9237 or JADA@maine.rr.com.

Fraternally,
        Hollis G. Dixon
         Grand Secretary
