Exchanging Christmas Gifts: As we approach the Holiday season, it is customary at many businesses for workers to exchange inexpensive Christmas Gifts. Here at Grand Lodge, our Staff does the same thing. Usually the gifts are limited to five or ten dollars. Last year, my wife and I did something different. We made a monetary donation to the Good Shepherd Food Bank in the name of each of our employees. We understand that for every dollar we donate the Good Shepherd Food Bank will provide $ 12.50 worth of food for a family in need. Rather than an inexpensive gift that they may never use, we believed that our friends would find satisfaction in knowing that they had donated money to help some hungry family at Christmas time.
If you think you might be interested in this idea, you can go to the Good Shepherd Food Bank Web site at www.gsfb.org for more information or just call them at (207) 782-3554.
Maps for Lodge Locations: For some time the Grand Lodge Web Page has included a section with maps showing the location of every Blue Lodge in the state of Maine. Many of those maps were incorrect because they had not been updated. Recently, we sent out a flyer requesting that every lodge submit accurate information concerning the location of their lodge building.
We have asked that you provide us with the Building Name; Building Location(Number and name of Street); City or Town and the Zip Code. If you do not know the number of your building, you should contact your Town Hall and they will provide it to you. If you know the GPS Latitude and GPS Longitude for your lodge hall, please submit that information as well. By providing us with this information you can make it easier for people to locate your lodge when they wish to attend one of your meetings.
Lost Masonic Ring: Recently, an employee at the Hannaford Food Store in Scarborough found a Masonic ring in the meat counter. They turned it over to the Scarborough Police Department. The Police Department has turned the ring over to Grand Lodge in hopes that we can locate the owner. If you have recently lost your Masonic ring and you have been shopping at Hannaford’s, you should contact the Grand Secretary and provide a description of the ring.
Masonic DVDs: The Grand Lodge Librarian, Wor. James Dufresne, has purchased six Masonic DVDs from the History Channel. He has provided us with a description of three of those DVDs and he will furnish us with descriptions of the remaining three next month. These are available to the public from the History Channel and should be of interest to our members. If your lodge has a Library, you may want to suggest that they purchase a set. The description of those DVDs can be found on the back of this Newsletter.
Merry Christmas,
Hollis G. Dixon
Grand Secretary
