Newsletter from the Grand Secretary

Hollis G. Dixon, Grand Secretary

April 2010

Special Communication of Grand LodgeOn April 10, 2010, we will hold a Special Communication of Grand Lodge for the purpose of having the Chairmen of each of our committees read their annual reports. This will lessen the amount of time needed for that function at the Annual Session in May. Business items that require a vote of the Brethren will still be taken up at the Annual Session.  This meeting will be hosted by Siloam Lodge in Fairfield at 10:00 a. m.  A light lunch will be provided at noon.

Please take notice that this meeting is not considered to be mandatory for all Masters and Wardens and lodges will not be fined for failing to be represented at the meeting.

Busy MonthThe month of April promises to be a busy month. The Advisory Council will be meeting with the elected Grand Lodge officers.  The Trustees of the Maine Masonic Charitable Foundation will hold their annual meeting; previous to which the Investment Committee will meet with representatives of H. M. Payson Co, our Brokers.

Additionally, on Saturday, April 17, 2010, the Grand Lodge officers will exemplify the Master Mason degree at Corinthian Lodge in Hartland. Corinthian Lodge is the home lodge of our Grand Master, M. W. Robert R. Landry.

On Friday, April 23, 2010, Monument Lodge No. 96, at Houlton, Maine will exemplify the Master Mason degree.  There will be a supper at 6:30 p. m. and the lodge will open at 7:30 p. m. Candidates for Grand Lodge office will be introduced and given about five minutes to speak prior to the start of the degree work.

Monument Lodge has been selected as the, “Lodge of the Year” by the Grand Lecturer.  Grand Lodge Officers are invited to attend and observe the excellent degree work done by this lodge.

Candidate Night ProgramsA number of lodges have scheduled Candidate Night Programs so that Masons in their District can come and meet the candidates for Grand Lodge elected office. This year we have four candidates for the office of Deputy Grand Master.  Attached to this Newsletter, you will find a schedule of these meetings as it stands up to this date.

Election of ProxiesPlease remember that your lodge must elect a Proxy at its April Stated Communication.  Your Proxy is to represent your lodge in the event that neither the Master nor the Senior or Junior Warden is able to attend our Annual Communication on May 4, 2010.

Recently, we sent you a Proxy Form, which you should use as it must be in the possession of the Proxy when he registers at Grand Lodge.

Fraternally,
        Hollis G. Dixon
         Grand Secretary
