Grand Master's Message

May 2008

I want to thank all the Past Grand Masters for doing an excellent job of installing the 2oo8 Grand Officers. I also want to thank Paul Hazard and the ANAH Temple Bagpipe Band for escorting us. I want to give a very special thank you to Miss Ashlee Lawrence for the excellent job on our National Anthem.

Now to get down to business, we have a lot of work in Masonry these next couple of years as the goals have been set pretty high---but they are very attainable. As you all know, UNITY is going to be our main goal. To unite all the Masonic bodies and have them all work together toward the same goal is what we are looking for.

Your Grand Lodge is going to be a very visible Grand Lodge. We are going to have Fellowship Nights in all Lodges and all Lodges are going to have Open Houses to help bring Masonry to the people of the State of Maine. Any and all the Grand Lodge Officers will assist in these projects.

The world is changing around us faster than ever and unless we, as Masons, keep up with the changes of the world, we’ll be left behind. The young men joining Masonry today know more about Masonry when they fill out the application than we did after being in the Fraternity for 20 years. We can not work the 3rd Degree on a candidate and forget about him, we need to keep him interested. There are many activities in Blue Lodge Masonry to keep everyone very busy, ask any of your Grand Lodge Officers, they’ll be very glad to help. There are also the higher degrees---Branches of Masonry that are very interesting, to say the least. Each branch has it’s own special focus and each have their own charity they support.

The District Deputies--- the real Back Bone of Grand Lodge---are going to be very busy this year. They have been carefully selected to act on the Grand Masters behalf in their respective districts. They are expected to know the activities of their Districts and keep the Grand Master up to date of what is happening around the state.

The Grand Wardens are each going to have their own special projects to keep track of. As you can see, the Grand Lodge Officers are not going to be just empty suits.

Your Grand Lodge is going to have a Members Committee and a Planning Committee. These committees are both led by very capable masons and you can expect great results from them.

Every Mason knows at least one good young man that would be a good Mason, introduce him to Masonry, you’ll both be glad you did.

I am looking forward to meeting and working with each of you as we travel this great state.

In the words of one of our great 33rd Degree Masons, Brother Red Skeleton, May God Bless.

Bob Landry,
Grand Master
