Deputy Grand Master A. James Ross


A. James Ross

R.W. Brother A. James Ross was raised in Presumpscot Lodge No. 127, Windham, in 1989. He progressed through the chairs and served with distinction as Worshipful Master in 1994. He was recognized by being selected the 17th Masonic District’s Mason of the Year in 2001 and served that district’s Masters and Wardens Association as President in 1993. Since 1995 he has served Presumpscot Lodge as Secretary.

Brother Ross was appointed Grand Senior Deacon of the Grand Lodge of Maine by M.W. Bro. Walter M. Macdougall. He was appointed District Education Representative by M.W. Bro. Charles E. Ridlon. He served as District Deputy Grand Master for the 17th Masonic District under M.W. Bro. Claire V. Tusch. He served as Grand Marshal for M.W. Bro. Gerald S. Leighton. Jim served with distinction as Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Maine in 2008.

Our Brother has served the Craft in many positions including: Editor of the Maine Mason magazine for Grand Masters Wayne T. Adams, Claire V. Tusch and Gerald S. Leighton; member of the Grand Lodge Masonic Lodge Renewal Team, former trustee of the Grand Lodge of Maine Charitable Foundation; a Regent of the Maine Masonic College and as President of the Maine DeMolay and Pine Tree Youth Foundation.

In May 2006, Brother Ross was awarded the Simon Greenleaf Medal for Meritorious Service to Masonry by M.W. Bro. Claire V. Tusch.

Blue Lodge Masonry has always been the primary focus for Bro. Ross, but he holds membership in other Masonic bodies including: Murray Chapter No. 33 Royal Arch Masons; The Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valleys of Portland and Boston and Maine and Massachusetts Consistories. Jim is a past Most Wise Master of Dunlap Chapter Rose Croix Valley of Portland; Maine College Society of Rosicruciana; Kora Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. Jim is member of Lake Region, Portland and York County Shrine Clubs. Jim is a member of Major General Henry Knox Lodge A.F. & A.M, Boston, Massachusetts; Southern California Research Lodge F. & A.M. Jim is a member of Deering Chapter No. 59 Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Worthy Patron. Jim also supports his DeMolay and Rainbow Chapters in Windham. He has served on the Advisory Board of Windham Assembly No. 27 since 1995, and in 1998 he was awarded the Grand Cross of Color of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. He was named Advisor of the Year for 2007 by the Grand Assembly of Maine. In 2002 he was awarded the DeMolay International Member of the Legion of Honor. He also served two full terms on the Grand Executive Committee of the Grand Assembly of Maine International Order of Rainbow for Girls.  

Jim also holds membership in non-Masonic organizations including Cape Elizabeth Grange No. 242 at Cape Elizabeth, Maine; Sanford Lodge No. 1470 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks at Sanford, Maine.

Jim has the untiring support and devotion of his wife Gerry and his step-daughter Kelly. Both ladies are members of the Order of Eastern Star and active in Maine Rainbow. Jim graduated Windham High School in 1986 and served in the United States Air Force. He holds a degree in Business Administration and is employed by the Administrative Office of the Courts in Portland.
